Celebrating Alecia’s Academic Achievement

After two and a half years of study, hard work and plenty of determination, we’re delighted to celebrate Alecia Todd, our Flexible Supports Coordinator and Goal Navigator, who has gained her New Zealand Diploma in Health and Wellbeing (Applied Practice) Level 5!

Alecia has worked in the disability sector for more than 20 years, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to her work supporting tāngata and their whānau. For her, completing the Diploma was an opportunity to build on that experience and gain a formal qualification that reflects the knowledge she has developed throughout her career.

“I thought it was time to get a qualification to show my experience.”

Through her studies, Alecia has also gained new knowledge that she hopes to put into practice by helping the people she works with and their whānau connect with community resources and support that can help them achieve their goals.

Completing the Diploma alongside a full-time job was no small achievement. Alecia also has two horses, meaning many evenings after work were spent heading straight out to the paddock! Balancing work, study and life brought its challenges, but with plenty of determination — and encouragement from Helen, our Chief People & Culture officer, and Helan Benson, the Flexible Supports Manager at the time — Alecia kept going.

“I will always appreciate the support and encouragement which was given to me through Florence,” she says.

Now that the study is complete, Alecia says she feels proud of what she has achieved; and is looking forward to putting what she has learnt into practice in her work with the people she supports.

Congratulations, Alecia! Your dedication and commitment to supporting tāngata and whānau are something to be celebrated. We’re so proud to see your experience recognised through this achievement, and we look forward to seeing the difference your learning continues to make.
